It may surprise you, but nowadays, a budget of around £25,000 opens up the door to a plethora of high quality coupes. Offering a good mixture of sporty styling and driving dynamics with some luxury quality added in, here are five of the best coupes available for less than £25,000.

BMW 2 Series Coupe

One of the smallest and sleekest additions to the current BMW product range, the 2 Series coupe is an attractive and sophisticated car that focuses on performance and driver engagement.

Priced from a little over £22k, the 2 Series is available with a couple of petrol and diesel units. Whichever you pick though, enthusiasts are likely to appreciate the car’s focus on agility and control even when taking corners at speed.

Other plus points include the lengthy standard equipment list and the decent sized boot which can hold 390 litres. Every specification comes with Bluetooth, DAB radio, rain-sensing wipers, leather steering wheel, automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch colour display screen and rear parking sensors.

Volkswagen Scirocco

The latest Volkswagen Scirocco was first launched back in 2008 and it immediately wowed motorists with its striking, aggressive-looking design. Both the standard trim and GT versions of the Scirocco are available for under £25k, with pricing starting at just under £21,000.

When driving the Scirocco, customers will be delighted with how refined the drive is and the sporty handling set-up should impress enthusiasts. The steering is not the sportiest compared to some other coupes, but it’s still well-weighted. Boosting the Scirocco’s appeal further is the very solid line-up of TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines. The cabin is also very roomy.

Toyota GT86

Priced at about £22,500, the Toyota GT86 is another reasonably priced car that prioritises those motorists looking for a pure and entertaining driving experience. As a result of this approach, the GT86 does lack in practicality and comfort, but owners are unlikely to care when so much fun can potentially be had from the driving experience.

Using a front-engine and rear-wheel drive powertrain, the GT86 has a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 197bhp. This is linked to a slick six-speed manual gearbox. On paper the engine might not sound that special, but the GT86 is agile and can cover the 0-62mph sprint in just 7.7 seconds.

If you want, a six-speed automatic transmission can be installed for an extra £1,500.

Subaru BRZ

The Subaru BRZ shares virtually all the same parts as the Toyota GT86 including the chassis and engine. The only real differences between the Subaru and the Toyota are some subtly styling tweaks, plus the Subaru is available in its trademark dark blue paint finish.

If you prefer the differences with the BRZ then by all means go for this instead as it shares the same starting prices as the GT86, as well as the same fun and flamboyant handling.

Vauxhall Astra GTC

This three-door coupe derivative of the Astra has some nice, sleek and sporty design cues that give it a lot of presence on the road.

And it’s not like it’s all about the style either. The Astra GTC is also well equipped and almost just as practical as the family-focused hatchback counterpart but also comes with some potent engines that should please the driving enthusiast within you.

The engine line-up has an interesting mixture, from the frugal 109bhp 1.6-litre TDI to the punchy 197bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol.
