Full specs and pricing for Fiat Tipo announced

Fiat has announced full specs and pricing for its new Tipo hatchback and estate range ahead of its launch in Turin this month.

Designed to rival cars like the Ford Focus, the Tipo is Fiat’s first entry into the family hatch market since the Bravo was discontinued in 2014, and prices start from £12,995 for the entry-level hatch.

Cheaper than any other car in its segment, Fiat nonetheless stresses that the Tipo offers exceptional levels of luxury for its price, with a distinctly handsome appearance and well-appointed interior.

Three trims are available, and although the names of each grade have yet to be confirmed, standard equipment for the entry-level model includes DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity.

Opting for the mid-range model adds a five-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system and a leather-trimmed steering wheel, along with rear electric windows, 16-inch alloys and cruise control.

Priced from £1,000 over the basic model, mid-spec versions also get LED daytime running lights and rear electric windows, plus smartphone connectivity that supports a range of phone apps.

Three trim levels available

Finally, the £14,995 range-topper adds TomTom sat-nav as standard, along with climate control and larger 17-inch alloys, plus automatic lights and wipers in addition to a rear-view camera.

Options across the range include upgrades for the infotainment system, safety equipment like autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control with a speed limiter.

Described as “deceptively roomy”, Fiat claims that even the hatch version of the Tipo can easily accommodate three six-foot passengers in the rear and says that it offers class-leading boot space.

Class-leading boot space

The boot in the five-door hatch has 440 litres of space with the rear seats folded up, while the Station Wagon estate version has 550 litres and can carry loads up to 1.8 metres in length.

From launch, five engine options will be available, which includes a naturally aspirated 94bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine, a 118bhp turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol and a 108bhp 1.6-litre petrol.

Two turbodiesels are also available, which includes a 94bhp 1.3-litre version and a 118bhp 1.6-litre, while the Tipo can be had with either a manual or an automatic gearbox depending on engine choice.

Of the engines, the 1.4-litre turbo petrol is the quickest and is capable of hitting 62mph from a standstill in a lively 9.6 seconds in hatchback format, while top speed clocks in at 124mph.

The 1.6-litre diesel, meanwhile, is the pick of the bunch in terms of efficiency, able to deliver claimed average fuel economy of up to 76.3mpg with just 98g/km of CO2 emissions.

Available to buy in both hatchback and estate formats in the UK from this September onwards, prices for the new Fiat Tipo start from just £12,995.
