Fiat Tipo hatchback and estate coming to the UK

Fiat has revealed the Tipo family car in five-door hatchback and estate guises, both of which will come to the UK market this September. The Tipo will challenge the likes of the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Volkswagen Golf.

The Tipo will be the first Focus-rival offered by Fiat in the UK since the Bravo, which was pulled from the market in 2014. Fiat has also created a saloon version of its new Tipo family car, but this bodystyle will not be sold in Britain.

Tipo engines

Engines for the Fiat Tipo range in the UK will include two diesels - a 1.3-litre unit and a 1.6-litre producing 94bhp and 118bhp respectively. There will also be three petrol engines, including a 1.4-litre unit delivering 94bhp, a 1.6-litre unit with 108bhp and a turbocharged 1.4-litre unit that produces 118bhp.

Gearboxes available will include a six-speed manual for the entry-level 94bhp petrol, while the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel units are available with a six-speed automatic ‘box. The 1.6-litre diesel with the optional automatic gearbox officially averages a fuel economy of 76.3mpg and emits just 98g/km of CO2.

Tipo kit and pricing

The standard equipment list for the Fiat Tipo hatchback and estate is set to include air conditioning, electric front windows (plus electric rear windows for the estate), electric mirrors, a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity.

Standard boot capacity meanwhile is measured at 420 litres for the hatchback and 520 litres for the estate. This means the Tipo has one of the largest load capacities in its class, the Tipo hatchback’s boot offers over 100 litres more as standard than a Focus hatchback.

UK pricing for the Fiat Tipo range has yet to be confirmed, but it will likely be similar to cars like the Focus and Astra. Therefore, expect the Tipo hatchback to start at about £16,000 to and the estate to start at roughly £17,000.
