Nissan X-Trail adds optional drone

It's now possible to get a proper drone that can be deployed from your car as Nissan is offering one as part of an official option pack for its X-Trail SUV.

The Nissan X-Trail SUV is getting a limited-edition option pack which includes an autonomous video-recording drone.

Joining the X-Trail range is the X-Scape pack, which is available for N-Vision and Tekna trim versions of the Nissan SUV as a £500 option. Just 200 of the option packs will be sold by Nissan.

The X-Scape pack’s main feature is a Parrot Bebop 2 drone, making this the first time a manufacturer has offered a drone with a car to general consumers. The drone comes equipped with GPS and visual tracking that allows users to set it up to automatically follow them, either in the car or on foot.

A landing zone is fitted to the roof of the Nissan X-Trail so that the drone is capable of landing autonomously.

It also comes with a controller so it can be manually directed and special glasses which gives the wearer a live feed and first-person view from the drone’s built-in camera. This camera can also take high quality images while its deployed thanks to stabilisation technology.

The X-Trail’s drone weighs just 500g, has a projected flight time of up to 25 minutes and buyers receive a padded backpack for storage.

Other features included in X-Trail models with the X-Scape pack are sat-nav, a panoramic roof and roof rails.
