Porsche tuner RUF will reveal its first standalone car in Geneva

RUF Automobile, probably the most famous Porsche tuner car company in the world, will reveal its first independent product at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show this week.

While all previous RUF products have been based on existing Porsche models, the upcoming new supercar from the company has been produced in-house from the ground up.

RUF does say its new car is inspired by a pre-existing Porsche, but the product does not borrow the architecture of an existing Porsche sports car and instead has a completely unique carbon fibre structure.

Last year, RUF Automobile began properly selling cars in Britain by opening its first official outlet in this country. Recent cars sold by RUF have been based on modern-day Porsche 911s, and are treated to stockier, more aerodynamic bodywork and power-boosted engines.

Examples include the 802bhp RTR and 777bhp CTR3 Clubsport, both of which are capable of 200mph-plus speeds.

The new standalone car which will be revealed by RUF is said to be based on an older product from the tuning company, the iconic CTR Yellowbird from 1987 (seen just above). The original Yellowbird was based on what was the current 911 at the time but featured a heavily-tuned flat-six engine that could produce 463bhp. In certain test runs, it was capable of surpassing 200mph.

One of RUF’s current products, the CTR3, can reach an insane top speed of 236mph. More details on RUF’s new standalone car, including presumably what eye-popping performance figures it boasts, will likely be revealed later this week when the Geneva Motor Show kicks off.
