We say While the Bravo is cheap and carries some flair, drive and ride are simply not up to par with rival models in a tough sector.Performance The Bravo comes with five engines to choose from starting with a 1.4-litre petrol unit with a meagre 89bhp. There’s also a 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine with 120bhp, and three decent Multijet turbodiesels including a 1.6 in standard and Eco form and a 2.0 which is the most powerful boasting 165bhp.Emissions The average CO2 output for the Bravo range is a respectable 144g/km. An Eco version of the 1.6-litre diesel model is available which offers a fuel economy of 58mpg while emitting just 115g/km. The worst polluting model, which has the 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol, manages a less impressive 39mpg while emitting 167g/km.Driving It’s easy and quiet to drive but the Bravo does lack the agility and handling ability of similar hatchback rivals.Feel The steering is light and copes well with quite changes of direction, though it also lacks feel. The ride meanwhile can get jittery at times when driving over a bumpy road.Space No problem in the front but knee room for rear seat passengers is an issue. The boot can store at minimum 365 litres worth of luggage.Equipment There are a lot of trims to choose from with the Bravo, including a rather basic standard trim, but higher end models get a decent amount of kit. Standard equipment includes electric mirrors, folding rear seats and cloth seat trim.Price Pricing starts at £15,200 for the standard trim and climbs all the way up to £19,600.Quality The cabin in the Fiat Bravo features comfy seats, however numerous panels don’t line up properly, giving the car a cluttered layout, while some of the materials used including cheap feeling plastics.Safety The Fiat Bravo received a maximum five-star rating for adult safety in the Euro NCAP crash test. The standard safety kit on all models includes six airbags and child-seat fix points. Disappointingly though electronic stability and for most trims traction control are only available as extra options.Pros Decent diesel engines, competitive price range, good quality seats, five-star Euro NCAP rating.Cons Electronic stability is only optional, rear legroom is poor, the cabin has some tacky materials, and its drive lacks agility.Alternatives Ford Focus, Peugeot 308, Seat Ibiza
