We say The most stylish and fun hybrid on the market though it's not particularly fast or frugal.Performance The CR-Z coupe comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that works in tandem with an IMA electric motor assist system. The petrol engine generates 112bhp while the electric motor generates around bhp, enough for a combined output of 122bhp, more or less. That’s enough for the coupe to clear 62mph in 9.9 seconds and it’s also capable of hitting a top speed of 124mph.Emissions A hybrid drivetrain smacks of market-leading CO2 emissions and fuel economy figures; unfortunately the CR-Z’s figures fall some way short of what you’d expect as it falls victim to the improvements in standard petrol and diesel drivetrain technology which sees the 100g/km threshold regularly broken by cars which maintain decent performance figures (see Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion). It’s returns are still decent with a combined cycle fuel economy of 56.5mpg and emissions of 117g/km but not quite as good as you might expect.Driving The CR-Z makes up for its disappointing emissions and fuel economy figures with its drive and handling. Because of its low ground clearance, low-slung design and stiff suspension setup, it handles brilliantly, generating plenty of grip and little bodyroll around corners. There’s also sharp steering and plenty of feedback, enough to make for a genuinely involving and enjoyable drive.Feel The ride is firm but not too much to become uncomfortable. It can feel slightly jittery at times but overall it’s good fun and comfortable without ever becoming soft and washy over bumps.Space The CR-Z is officially a 2+2 seat coupe but if you’re crammed into the back, you might disagree. Space in the rear comes at a premium and a long journey in the rear is likely to be extremely uncomfortable and claustrophobic. Space in the front is much easier to come by with plenty of head and legroom up top. Boot space is also a little disappointing in the CR-Z – 225-litres - but with such cramped conditions in the rear, there should be plenty of room on the uninhabited seats, too.Equipment The CR-Z is very well equipped with even the most basic trim level coming with reams of technology, gadgets and features. All models come with climate control, alloy wheels and a CD player whilst higher up the range, cruise control, a panoramic roof and Bluetooth connectivity is all installed.Price Pricing for the CR-Z coupe starts from around £17,000 and rises to a range high of around £23,000.Quality The CR-Z’s interior is unique to the hybrid coupe which gives a feeling of exclusivity and generally speaking, it’s a nice cabin to sit in. The dashboard and centre console feel modern but some plastics are hard and cheap to touch.Safety The CR-Z comes with a wide range of safety and river aids as standard across the range including all the usual airbags, traction control and ABS.Pros The CR-Z is a stunning sports-coupe that returns admirable CO2 emissions and fuel economy figures. It’s unique and stands out from the crowd as well as being well priced when compared to rival coupes.Cons The CR-Z is a three-seater at best, because the rear is so cramped, and when that’s mated to its small boot, it makes for a pretty impractical car. CO2 emissions and fuel economy figures aren’t as impressive as you’d hope for a hybrid model.Alternatives Volkswagen Scirocco, Citroen DS3
