While many car companies are struggling in the current market, one firm that certainly isn’t is MG.
As the UK’s fastest-growing car manufacturer, MG’s sales weren’t even impacted by the coronavirus crisis – in fact, registrations increased by 88 per cent last month, when most other firms saw huge drops.
Key to this success has been a growing dealer network, but also some great affordable products – namely its best-selling ZS. Despite only being around for a couple of years, MG has just updated it for 2020.
Changes include a jump in quality, a bolder look, more tech and even greater value thanks to more standard kit, while it continues to come with a seven-year warranty.
So if you’re considering a new MG ZS, here’s what you need to know…
What engines are available?
The choice is simple with the ZS, as there is just a single petrol engine – a 105bhp 1.5-litre petrol unit. It’s not the cleverest of units, but suits the MG’s relaxed character well.
It’s mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, and that allows for a 0-60mph time of 10.4 seconds and a top speed of 109mph, along with CO2 emissions of 155g/km and fuel economy figure of 41.4mpg. An automatic gearbox is set to be available later this year.
While a different model, MG does offer an electric version of this crossover – the ZS EV – which offers a 163-mile range. This remains on sale, but is yet to be updated.
What trim levels are offered?
The choice remains simple in terms of trims, too, with just two well-equipped grades available. Equipment highlights and prices are as follows.
Excite – from £15,495
You get loads of kit for your money with the ZS, with equipment including LED headlights, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and cruise control. It also comes with an electric driver’s seat, diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels, an electric driver’s, air conditioning and a leather steering wheel.
Exclusive – from £17,795
Upgrade to the top-spec Exclusive trim and this adds revised 17-inch alloy wheels, a digital dial system and heated front seats. It also adds an upgraded sound system, leather upholstery, blind spot monitoring, satellite navigation and a 360-degree camera.
What about personalisation?
A great selection of colours are available on the updated MG ZS, including a new shade known as Battersea Blue, along with Spiced Orange and Dynamic Red.
MG doesn’t tend to offer conventional optional extras, but a host of accessories are available. These include black mirrors, carbon fibre or chrome styling, along with various interior protection and even tow bars, roof bars and dog guards.
