The BMW 3 Series is arguably the most well-known executive saloon on the market, and 2019 sees the seventh generation make its debut.
With a series of new tech features, a handsome exterior and improved driver involvement, we take a brief look at the new BMW 3 Series…
What engines are there?
From launch, the 3 Series is fitted with either the 320d diesel or 330i petrol four-cylinder units – with the M Performance-engineered M340i xDrive and plug-in hybrid 330e to follow later on in 2019.
For the 320d – which is likely to be the most popular – power output is 188bhp and 400Nm of torque and it comes with either rear-wheel or xDrive all-wheel drive. The diesel is capable of 0-60mph in 6.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 149mph. That’s all while being able to achieve 67.3mpg and 110g/km CO2. The 330i has 255bhp and 400Nm of torque at its disposal and can get from 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds. It’s top speed is limited to 155mph.
What specifications are there?
BMW is offering three trim levels with the 3 Series – SE, Sport and M Sport – with base spec models coming with 17-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, Bluetooth, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay, three-zone automatic climate control, parking assistant with reversing camera and cruise control.
For top-end M Sport models, BMW adds larger displays, 18-inch alloy wheels, sports seats finished in leather, M Sport-specific equipment and darker exterior trim features.

What optional kit can I get?
Three major option packs are available with the 3 Series – the Visibility, Premium Package and Comfort packages. The Visibility pack adds the BMW Laserlight headlight units which provide better range, with high-beam assistant ensuring that other drivers don’t get dazzled.
The Premium pack offers a glass sunroof and electric seat adjustment with lumbar support, while the Comfort pack offers an automatic tailgate, additional storage options, a heated steering wheel and comfort access, which allows users to unlock their 3 Series via a smartphone application.
How customisable is it?
BMW offers customers 12 body colours and six alloy options, ranging from 17- to 19-inch units. In terms of upholstery, customers of Sport and M Sport models can choose from five colour combinations for the leather upholstery – with all coming as a non-cost option.
What will it cost?
For the base level 3 Series SE, prices start from £32,620, while the mid-spec Sport option starts from £34,020. Top-end M Sport models cost from £35,520 – with the 3 Series on sale from March 2019.
