2015 Hyundai Tucson crossover launch details revealed

Engine and spec details have been revealed for the Hyundai Tucson – a new crossover that will replace the ix35.

The Tucson, Hyundai’s new mid-sized crossover and replacement for the ix35, will launch in Britain this September.

Rivals for the Tucson are set to include the Nissan Qashqai, Mazda CX-5, Skoda Yeti and Toyota RAV4.

Hyundai has used the Tucson name in Britain before but it disappeared when the latest ix35 was launched back in 2010. Now though, it is making a comeback, following the reveal of the new Tucson back in March at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

Engines reportedly included for the 2015 Tucson include a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 133bhp in naturally aspirated form or 174bhp in turbocharged form. Also set to feature is a 1.7-litre diesel with 113bhp and a 2.0-litre diesel offering 134bhp and 181bhp.

Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and automatic plus a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The new five-seater Tucson features a large, striking chrome front-grille, which is similar to that found on the latest Hyundai Santa Fe. It measures longer, wider and taller compared to the ix35, resulting in extra interior space for passengers to enjoy. Boot capacity with all the seats up measures 513 litres, which is actually less than the ix35 but still better compared to some main rivals like the Qashqai.

Equipment highlights of the Tucson include a powered tailgate, ventilated and heated seats and an all-new sat-nav system which should be faster responding than the ix35’s.
