2016 Kia Sportage to debut in Frankfurt

Kia has teased the reveal of its next generation Sportage crossover by publishing sketch images of the new car. These have been show ahead of the Kia’s public debut appearance next month during the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new Sportage will be the fourth generation of the Kia crossover and will aim to outdo established rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai and Mazda CX-5.

While the design of the new Sportage is not likely to be quite as dramatic or coupe-like as the sketches suggest, it still gives plenty of hints regarding the car’s styling cues. For instance, the sketches show the new Sportage retains the Tiger Nose front-end which is Kia’s current trademark.

Inside, meanwhile, Kia says the new Sportage will combine ‘simple, modern style with rich material quality’. The South Korean manufacturer adds that the car will have Kia’s ‘most refined, highest-quality cabin to date’.

Engine options are currently unknown but a mixture of front or four-wheel drive powertrains are likely to be offered, much like with the current Sportage.

Details on pricing and release date have yet to be confirmed but there’s a good chance we’ll learn more about both when the car appears in the metal in Frankfurt next month.
