2016 Mercedes SL to debut in LA

Mercedes has released a teaser image of its facelifted SL-Class convertible ahead of the car’s global public debut at the LA Motor Show later this month.

While no official details have been released yet about the updated SL, the new teaser image does give us a good look at the new front end of the premium convertible.

Compared to the pre-facelifted model, the front of the 2016 Mercedes SL sports a redesigned bumper, a tweaked bonnet design and a new grille that’s reminiscent of the Mercedes AMG GT sports car.

The SL’s LED daytime running lights have also been moved from the bumper to the headlights. This leaves space for some extra lower vents and a new central air intake.

Engine options for the updated SL are expected to be carried over from the current Mercedes. That means options will probably include a 329bhp 3.0-litre V6, a 4.7-litre V8 with 429bhp and, for the AMG models, a 530bhp V8 along with a 621bhp 6.0-litre V12. All SL specifications are likely to have a 0-62mph sprint time below five and a half seconds.

UK pricing and specifications for the facelifted Mercedes SL will be confirmed next year. The current model is still available from £73,575.
