A new Megane Renaultsport hot hatch is in the works as revealed in a new teaser video. It could boast up to 300bhp.
In a recently released online video, Renault thanks its fans after achieving over one million likes on its Renault Sport Facebook page. The one minute video highlights numerous cars the Renault Sport division has created in the past, before finishing with a teaser of the upcoming new Megane Renaultsport, which is obscured by a cover.
The video confirms that the new Megane Renaultsport will be revealed later this year, and the 2017 Frankfurt Moto Show in September is when it will most likely make its public bow. A launch date hasn’t been confirmed yet but reports suggest it will likely go on sale in early 2018.
Rumours also indicate that the new Megane Renaultsport will have similar styling to the current Megane GT, but some parts will be larger and even more aggressive. Sharper bumpers, larger alloy wheels and chunkier wheel arches are likely to be among the changes for the Renaultsport. Like the regular Megane, the new Renaultsport hot hatch is also expected to be a five-door model only.
While the new Megane Renaultsport is likely to use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine like its predecessor, expect it to have more power than the current model's 271bhp. In fact, an output in excess of 300bhp is reportedly possible.
While the current Renaultsport Clio only comes with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, reports suggest the new Megane hot hatch will offer a manual gearbox as well as a dual clutch option.
