Following the recent unveiling of the facelifted Golf, Volkswagen has now unveiled the updated version of its flagship Golf R mega-hatch.
The most powerful Golf available in the range, the Golf R now benefits from subtle tweaks to its appearance to bring it more into line with the rest of the redesigned Golf lineup.
Among the styling updates, the Golf R gets new bumpers at the front and rear, plus new headlights. It’s now even hotter than ever before too, courtesy of a 10bhp bump up in power.
That raises maximum output to 306bhp in total, just ahead of the recently-unveiled SEAT Leon Cupra 300, and in turn makes the Golf R just that bit quicker than before too.
It can now cover the 0-62mph sprint in 4.6 seconds compared to 5.1 seconds for the pre-facelifted version, but while top speed hasn’t yet been unveiled it’s likely to still be electronically capped at 155mph.
The updated Golf R also gets the new gesture control feature as the standard Golf, along with a new seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, though a six-speed manual is still standard.
UK pricing for the 2017 Golf R has yet to be officially unveiled, but it’s expected to start from around £29,000 and is due to arrive in April this year.
