Ford has revealed that the 2018 Mustang GT will come fitted with a Stealth Mode to ensure neighbours aren’t disturbed by the car’s engine noise.

Used to muffle the cars roar, the new “quiet mode” will come as part of the active value performance exhaust option package and will accompany other modes including normal, sport and track.

According to Detroit Free Press, the idea itself came about after Ford vehicle engineer Steve von Foerster, had a complaint filed against him by a neighbour because of the engine roar from his Shelby GT350 Mustang.

Nicknamed the “good neighbour mode” the new function reduces the sound of the Mustang’s engine to 72 decibels, which is roughly the sound of a household vacuum cleaner.

So, it seems Ford have learnt to tame the Mustang GT for the suburbs, but will drivers really want to ever silence the sweet roar of the engine?
