2020 Audi Q3 Sportback revealed

Compact SUV gets ever-popular pseudo-coupe treatment.

Audi has brought a sleek new look to its Q3 SUV with this — the Sportback.

Though near enough mechanically-identical to the regular SUV, the Sportback gets a sleeker roofline to create a more dramatic and coupe-like aesthetic. The result is a 29mm drop in roof height, while the car’s overall length increased by 16mm.

The Sportback is a touch narrower than the base Q3, though Audi has introduced a freshly-designed grille to give a more imposing impression on the road. Rear headroom is naturally also down as a result of the sloping roofline, but a sliding rear row means the 530-litre boot from the standard car is retained.

A choice of three powertrains will be offered at launch — a 227bhp, 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel available in either 148bhp or 187bhp guise. Both the petrol and more potent diesel unit will be offered with a seven-speed automatic gearbox, though the lower-output diesel will send its drive through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The interior of the Q3 Sportback is retained from the regular car, with its huge 10.1-inch infotainment system continuing to take centre stage. A handful of changes have been made to the system though, with it now including support for Amazon Alexa along with Audi’s own ‘Car-to-X’ services. These allow the car to receive information on the road situation such as the status of upcoming traffic lights.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed for the new Audi Q3 Sportback, though expect to hear more once order books open in the autumn.
