2020 Skoda Octavia teased with official Spy Shots

New-generation Octavia will launch as an estate and feature hybrid technology.

Skoda has confirmed a plethora of details of its all-new Octavia ahead the model’s reveal next month.

It will be launched as an estate version first, with a hatchback variant following shortly after. The Czech firm has planned this staggered release as a result of the estate’s popularity, which it says has traditionally accounted for almost two-thirds of Octavia sales.

Though images of the car so far only show it in a heavily camouflaged guise, some of Skoda’s signature design details are clear to see through the masking. Thin, angular headlights are visible — which Skoda says will be offered as full LED Matrix units — and flank a distinctive grille.

Interior space is said to be up over its predecessor — with 78mm more legroom for passengers in the rear. As for boot capacity, that’s increased to 640 litres and 600 litres in estate and hatchback forms respectively.

Numerous powertrains are offered, including petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrids. For green-pump cars, there’s a choice of 1.0-litre, 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre units — with the latter most exclusively paired to an all-wheel-drive setup with its power sent via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Three diesels will be offered, all based on a 2.0-litre unit, ranging from 113bhp to 197bhp in outputs.

As for the plug-in option, it will launch as a 1.4-litre petrol unit linked with an electric motor, with a total system output of 201bhp. A more powerful 242bhp option will launch in future.

In terms of technology, new to the Octavia is a head-up display — which works in conjunction with the instrument cluster-replacing Active Info Display to easily and clearly provide the driver with key information like speed, navigation directions and revs.

USB-C ports will also be placed throughout the car to provide modern smartphones with quick charging technology, while other tweaks to its equipment include an optional 15mm sports suspension setup.

We’ll see the new Skoda Octavia in its full, road-ready form on November 11.
