5 key things to know about the new MG HS

The MG HS is the firm’s largest SUV and is a compelling alternative to a Nissan Qashqai or Vauxhall Grandland X

MG is a brand that’s proving to be one of the fastest-growing car firms in the UK – helped by great affordable products and an ever-expanding dealer network.

Its range now consists of the MG3 hatch, the ZS crossover, the electric ZS EV and the most recent addition – the HS.

This new crossover sits at the top of MG’s line-up and is a great alternative to the likes of the Nissan Qashqai if you’re looking for a new family crossover.

Here are five key things to know about it...

It has a seven-year warranty

Most new cars still only come with a three-year warranty, but MG vastly exceeds that – offering seven years and 80,000 miles of reassurance to you on the HS and its full range for that matter.

If you intend to keep your car for more than three years, this level of warranty cover is a big asset to the HS, and should give you peace of mind for years to come.

Class-leading levels of standard safety kit

While autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist are pretty commonplace on just about all new cars, many models in the crossover class still don’t come as standard with features like adaptive cruise control or blind spot monitoring. Or if they do, it’s only on the expensive top-spec models or available as pricey optional extras.

But with the HS, it comes as standard with MG’s ‘Pilot’ system. This gives you a seriously impressive amount of kit – including high beam assist, blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control. All of this makes the HS one of the safest models in its class.

It’s great value for money

If you care about getting the most for your money, you should without a doubt consider the MG HS.

With prices starting from just £20,995, it undercuts key rivals by several thousand pounds – the Vauxhall Grandland X, for example, costs from £24,310. However, it’s not just the price you need to consider, but also all the standard equipment that the HS comes with.

Alongside MG Pilot, you also get a large 10.1-inch touchscreen, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, satellite navigation and a reversing camera – meaning that even entry-level versions come with all the kit you’d ever need.

Stylish looks

You might not think of MG as a brand that’s known for its stylish models, but the HS is a really quite handsome-looking crossover – especially when compared to many of its rivals.

If you want the best looks, it’s worth searching for a top-spec ‘Exclusive’ model – these featuring crisp LED headlights, scrolling indicators at the front and rear as well as a panoramic sunroof.

Spacious interior

If you’re buying a family crossover, spaciousness is likely a top priority, and the MG HS doesn’t disappoint.

It boasts class-leading space in the front – making it ideal for taller drivers and front-seat passengers – along with plenty of rear room and a 463-litre boot – increasing to 1,454 litres if you drop the back seats.
