Technology moves so fast nowadays that when it comes to car infotainment systems, your ‘new’ model can very quickly become outdated.
Manufactures are constantly trying to stay ahead of the curve and futureproof its systems as best they can – and Jaguar is one of them.
Jaguar’s latest technology feat is the new InControl Touch Pro system. Offered across its range and with the option of a huge 10.2-inch display, InControl Touch Pro is a one stop shop for all in-car tech, convenience and comfort requirements.
We jumped inside the Jaguar XJ and had a play around with the new InControl Touch Pro system and here are some of our favourite features.
Rear seat luxury
For those sat in the back of the XJ, possibly being chauffeured, there are loads of features up front that can help you relax. First off, if you are sat in the back and you want the driver to go to a specific location, you can type in a sat-nav address on one of the screens mounted on the back of the front headrest and then ping it to the touchscreen in the front.
You can also ping displays the other way. For example, if you connect a device in the front, via USB for example, you can then send its functions to one of the back screens.
And for extra chauffeur-style comfort, people sat in the front can also control the massaging seat functions for those in the back.
TFT screen
It can be really frustrating in a car if you are trying to program your sat-nav in or follow its directions and the front passenger is fiddling with the touchscreen. Well, thanks to a large TFT instrument cluster, all sat-nav information can now be placed right behind the steering-wheel.
This means that the front passenger has free reign to play around with music, video or web browsing features without disturbing the driver.
The sat-nav
The sat-nav is a sophisticated gadget of its own. The InControl Pro sat-nav is the first system to have a location search that works like Google, which means that if you search something like “petrol stations” then the system will suggest things like “Shell Garage.”
This is particularly useful if you are in an unfamiliar area and are looking for something like an Italian restaurant. Instead of having to scroll through a huge list, you could just search “Italian” and pick from a more concise list.
It sees everything
Parking cameras are fine at the front and rear – but what about at the sides? The XJ is able to deliver a 360 degree view of the car to allow more accurate parking in tighter spaces.
But it’s not this that impresses us – it is the fact that each of these cameras can be individually displayed. That means if you are edging towards a wall that is on your left, you can just switch to that camera and get a better look.
Track your flight and the weather
If you are trying to catch a flight then it is integral to keep up to date on whether it has been delayed or cancelled. By suppling the InControl Pro system with a flight number, it can keep tabs on a flight and send you notifications with information about its status and how long it is until departure.
For those who may want to know what the weather is going to be like when they land, the InControl Pro system allows you to search weather conditions in a specific location, at a specific time. So, you could see what the weather in Amsterdam is going to be like at 2pm.
