5 reasons why the Citroen C5 Aircross Hybrid is a great PHEV option

Citroen’s first plug-in hybrid is a compelling SUV option

Like many, Citroen is ramping up its electrification offensive, including with the new e-C4 EV which is arriving in 2021, along with the brand’s latest C5 Aircross Hybrid.

Bringing electrification to this funky SUV, it’s a compelling option in the hybrid SUV market, and could be an ideal option as a family car.

Here are five reasons why it’s a great PHEV

Low running costs

The key advantage of going with a plug-in hybrid is for efficiency purposes, and presuming you keep the C5 Aircross’s battery charged up, there is the possibility of some exceptionally low running costs.

With a 34-mile electric range on offer, Citroen is claiming it can return up to 166mpg, while CO2 emissions of 32g/km are especially low for a car of this type.

Practical interior

Showing its worth as a family car, the C5 Aircross is one of the roomiest models in its segment. While not quite as spacious as the standard petrol or diesel model, few will find this Citroen is lacking when it comes to practicality.

Offering a 600-litre boot with the rear seats slid forwards (or 1,510 litres with them folded), the boot is vast. Rear seat space is also plentiful, making it an ideal choice for a roomy family car.

Doesn’t sacrifice on comfort

With the increased weight that comes with a battery pack, it means manufacturers have to stiffen the suspension setup to cope with the extra heft.

In many cases this means the ride on plug-in hybrid models can prove firm, but thankfully this isn’t something that affects the C5 Aircross Hybrid – retaining the brand’s trademark of producing some of the most comfortable cars on the road.

Affordable to buy

Another key asset to the C5 Aircross Hybrid is its relatively affordable starting price – not commanding the steep premiums that many of its rivals do, and undercutting plenty of key competitors.

The range is available from £34,360, while drivers looking to lease or finance can currently get behind the wheel for an attractive £359 per month, with a £5,500 advance rental on Citroen Personal Lease. Anyone who signs up before December 31, 2020, will also get a free 7kW home charger wallbox installed.

Funky design inside and out

Citroen is a brand not afraid to do things differently to most other firms, having a range of bold and funky-styled models to choose from.

And the C5 Aircross is no exception, adopting chunky looks, stacked headlights and a Blue colour pack to signify its hybrid credentials.
