5 things you didn’t know about the Mini Clubman

The Clubman brings fun and practicality to the Mini range

Mini’s range of cars are known for standing out from the crowd and a model that really demonstrates this is the Clubman.

This fun hatchback-cross-estate car is arguably the funkiest car in this British brand’s range of models, bringing style and practicality to this class. Here are five things you might not know about the Mini Clubman…

It features unique twin-opening rear doors

One of the Clubman’s stand-out features is its cool twin-opening rear doors, which are truly unique to this segment.

They’re very different to a standard hatchback boot opening, and can even open electronically, too. You might think they could be impractical, but they actually allow for enhanced versatility, making it easy to load and unload items out of the boot.

Hot John Cooper Works model is the firm’s most powerful car yet

Mini is well-known for its performance models, and both the Cooper and Cooper S versions offer drivers plenty of enjoyment in the regular range.

But those wanting more thrills should look at the John Cooper Works, which uses the most powerful engine ever to feature in a Mini – a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine kicking out 302bhp and 450Nm of torque. It allows the Clubman to sprint to 60mph in just 4.7 seconds, while also being equipped with ALL4 all-wheel-drive as standard.

You can choose it as a new Shadow special edition

Mini loves a special edition, and you can now choose a limited-run version of the Clubman – the Shadow Edition.

It stands out thanks to its gloss black styling, large 19-inch John Cooper Works alloy wheels and sports styling kit, while inside comes with Piano Black trim, a dark headlining and sports seats. More standard kit is also fitted – including a new digital dial system and larger 8.8-inch touchscreen.

Brimmed with technology

Despite the Clubman’s relatively compact size, it’s certainly not lacking when it comes to technology.

That’s because it gets a range of high-end features, including Matrix LED headlights, a head-up display and adaptive cruise control to name but a few goodies on offer.

It’s far roomier than the standard Mini Hatch

While the standard Mini Hatch might be well-loved and hugely appealing, there comes a time when lifestyle changes means it can be just too small to use as your only car.

Though the firm did introduce a roomier five-door Hatch to offer more practicality, the Clubman remains a roomier option – its boot offering 360 litres of capacity, as opposed to 278 litres for the Hatch. There’s more rear space in the Clubman, too, which is useful if you need the room for taller occupants.

The Mini Clubman is on sale now, priced from £23,005.
