597bhp Audi S8 Plus unveiled

Audi has unveiled the new S8 Plus, the fastest-ever S model, which comes complete with 597bhp and the highest power-to-weight ratio of any premium sports saloon on earth.

Powered by an uprated version of the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as the standard S8, the Audi S8 Plus will be available to order in the UK from October onwards, with pricing starting from £97,700.

For the money, buyers get supercar-bothering power, with a 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds and an incredible torque rating of as much as 750Nm with the overboost function engaged.

It’s so powerful, in fact, that Audi claim’s it boasts the highest power-to-weight ratio of any car in its segment, with an output that equates to that of seven base-specification A1 models.

Built on the same underpinnings as the standard wheelbase S8, the S8 Plus receives a raft of performance upgrades like carbon fibre air inlets, a rear diffuser and a black exterior styling pack.

Distinctive designs to further set the Plus model apart from the rest of the range include darkened tail lights, a rear lip spoiler and optional carbon fibre housings for the wing mirrors.

Matrix LED headlights come as standard, alongside sport seats upholstered in black leather with contrasting red stitching, plus exclusive S8 Plus badging, paint options and 21-inch alloys.

A 14-speaker BOSE surround sound system, a hands-free boot and advanced parking system round off the impressive standard spec, along with adaptive cruise control and power-closing doors.

Buyers can also specify an optional ‘dynamic package’ which boosts the top speed from an electronically-limited 155mph to 189mph, and adds carbon-fibre reinforced ceramic brakes.

Engine output is transmitted to the ground via Audi’s eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox, quattro four-wheel drive and a sports differential, while it also features specially-tuned suspension.

Order books for the new Audi S8 Plus open this October, with first deliveries in the UK expected to begin in January next year.
