A Brabham supercar is reportedly being planned

Brabham, one of the most famous names from the world of motorsport, could be used to brand a new supercar which would also be promoted by a new Formula 1 team under the same name.

The Brabham brand shot to fame thanks to the late Sir Jack Brabham, who won the Formula 1 World Championship three times in 1959, 1960 and 1966. As well as winning as a driver, Jack also ran a successful racing team under his own name during his career. The original Brabham team continued to compete in Formula 1 until 1992.

In recent years, one of Jack Brabham’s sons, David Brabham (seen above), has been working towards starting up a new Brabham racing team and has been quietly securing the necessary trademarks to make this possible.

Now, according to a report from Autocar, there are potential plans for Brabham to purchase the Force India F1 team. This would lead to a rebranding of the team under the famous Brabham name, with help from American investors, and the outfit would be used to promote a supercar company. The business plan is similar to the one currently utilised by McLaren, which runs both a Formula 1 team and a road car division.

While the Force India F1 team is currently enjoying good results, the team’s chairman and managing director, Subrata Roy and Vijay Mallya, are both facing serious legal troubles in India. It’s speculated that both are looking to sell Force India as a result.
