Abarth 124 Spider pricing confirmed

Pricing for the Abarth 124 Spider - the performance-tuned version of Fiat’s new convertible sports car - has been announced ahead of its launch in the UK this summer.

The 124 Spider is based on the latest MX-5’s platform but the car is five and a half inches longer compared to the Mazda and it has different styling that shows clear Fiat influence. Also unlike the MX-5, the 124 Spider has a distinct, performance-boosted derivative thanks to Abarth, Fiat’s official tuning company.

While the regular Fiat 124 Spider will be priced between £19,545 and £23,295, the Abarth 124 Spider will start from £29,565.

Unique styling and more powerful engine

For the extra money, the Abarth 124 Spider includes a more powerful engine than the Fiat-badged 124, along with more aggressively-designed bumpers, a distinct matt black ‘anti-glare’ bonnet, plus a diffuser and rear spoiler.

The engine, a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit, delivers 168bhp in the Abarth 124 Spider. That’s considerably more than the 138bhp offered by the Fiat 124 which uses the same engine.

Using a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, the Abarth 124 Spider is also available with a paddle-shift automatic gearbox called Sequenziale Sportivo, which bumps up the car’s price to £31,605.

The 0-62mph sprint in the Abarth is covered in 6.8 seconds with the manual ‘box and the convertible can reach a top speed of 143mph.

Standard equipment for the Abarth 124 Spider includes climate control, cruise control, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and an infotainment system with a seven-inch colour display.
