Alfa Romeo Giulia reportedly smashes Nurburgring saloon record

The all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde (QV) has reportedly set the fastest lap time for a saloon around the iconic Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit.

According to Alfa Romeo, its Giulia QV performance saloon has managed to lap the 12.9-mile Nurburgring track in a time of just 7 minutes and 39 seconds.

Lap times around the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit do not tend to be verified by an independent body. Nevertheless, assuming the lap time is accurate, that makes the Giulia QV nine seconds faster than the quickest lap set by the BMW M4 coupe around the same circuit.

To add further perspective to the Alfa’s lap time, it’s quicker than those recorded for the previous-generation Audi R8 V10, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and Pagani Zonda C12 S. No saloon to date has claimed a lap time that’s equal or greater than the Giulia QV.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia QV, reportedly about 90kg lighter than a BMW M4, uses a 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo petrol engine boasting 503bhp. This gives the saloon a 0-62mph sprint time of just 3.9 seconds.

Available with both a rear and four-wheel drive powertrain, the Giulia QV also reportedly emits less than 200g/km of CO2 and averages about 35mpg. That gives it a slight edge over the BMW M3 saloon, which emits 204g/km and officially averages 32.1mpg.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia will launch in early 2016, with the QV model rumoured to be priced from just over £50,000.
