Alfa Romeo Giulia wins double at Irish Car of the Year awards

The Italian mid-size saloon won the best medium car, while the Quadrifoglio version won the accolade for best Performance Car

Alfa Romeo’s Giulia saloon has won two prizes at this years’ Irish Car of the Year awards.

Winning in both the ‘Best Medium Car’ and ‘Performance Car’ categories – with the latter awarded for the Quadrifoglio version – the Alfa saloon has been incredibly popular with critics in both normal and performance guise.

With the awards decided by 30 Irish journalists from different formats, the Giulia has won plaudits for being good looking, great to drive and being a solid alternative to its rivals built by Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

The Quadrifoglio has been received well in the performance sector, and with the help of its raucous 2.9-litre, V6 engine that produces 502bhp and can achieve a top speed of 191mph.

Managing director of FCA Ireland Paul Hunt said: “For the entire Giulia range to be lauded at the most prestigious awards in the Irish calendar is really humbling.

“The Irish Car of the Year jury have recognised the passion and dedication that has been gone into making the Giulia and has made it into a car that can be chosen with both the head and the heart.”

With the Giulia priced from £29,875, and the Quadrifoglio version starting from £61,595, Alfa Romeo has earned its place back in the competitive executive saloon segment and has been awarded accordingly.
