All DS cars to be electrified by 2025

The French brand will start this trend with the release of the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense petrol-hybrid, which will go on sale early next year.

After committing itself to the all-electric Formula E world championship, DS has said that all of its vehicles will come with electrified powertrains by 2025.

The brand’s electrification process is beginning with the introduction of the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense, which is being released in the autumn of 2019, before a battery-powered model is unveiled soon after.

With DS joining Formula E for its fifth season, which starts in November, the brand will employ the technology developed in the sport to advance its future road vehicles – may they be hybrids or all-electric.

At last month’s Paris e-Prix, Yves Bonnefont, DS chief executive officer, said: "Starting in 2025, each new DS will be launched exclusively with electrified powertrains. Our ambition is very clear: for DS to be among the global leaders in electrified cars in its segment.

"Our strategy is underway with the arrival of DS 7 Crossback E-Tense, fitted with a hybrid (petrol-electric) drivetrain and boasting 295bhp, and is to be followed soon with the presentation of the first 100% electric DS model.”

DS joins the likes of BMW, Audi and Jaguar Land Rover in using Formula E as a proving ground for electric powertrain development that will then be transferred in to road vehicles.

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense is the brand’s first electrified effort and will include a 30-mile range in all-electric mode and a four-wheel drive setup in a practical body. The car is currently going through its development stages before a market release next year.
