All-electric Hyundai KONA teased ahead of Geneva Motor Show

A pure-battery powered version of Hyundai's compact crossover is coming, with the South Korean manufacturer releasing a preview image.

Hyundai has revealed a teaser image of its upcoming all-electric KONA, which will be make its public debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. 

The KONA Electric — set to be revealed fully via a livestream on February 27 — will be the first all-electric compact crossover on the European market when it arrives in summer 2018.

Two powertrain options will be available for the KONA Electric at launch with the most powerful having a 292-mile range — although full details will be disclosed during the reveal.

Styling will remain in-line with that in the current KONA range, although some tweaks to distinguish the model from its fossil fuel-powered stablemates should be expected. 

Little more has been said about the electric crossover, but Hyundai says customers should expect “a wide range of convenience and connectivity features as well as active safety and driving assistance technologies.”

KONA Electric won’t be the first electrified car to join Hyundai’s line-up. It offered the first mass-produced fuel cell vehicles with the ix35 Fuel Cell, while the IONIQ has both all-electric and hybrid options in its line-up.

The Hyundai KONA, which launched In 2017, is now available with prices starting from £16,445.
