All-new Jaguar XF engine and spec details announced

Jaguar has revealed greater details of its latest Jaguar XF saloon, following its high-wire water stunt in London yesterday.

According to Jaguar, the high-wire stunt, which saw the XF balancing on two extended wires, displayed the XF’s “lightweight and agile credentials”, showing off the brand’s aluminium-intensive architecture. This sophisticated aluminium manufacturing reduces the XF’s weight by 190kg, with 75 per cent of the XF’s body being made from the metal.

Although now 7mm shorter and 3mm lower than the model it replaces, its wheelbase is 51mm longer at 2,960mm, allowing for greater interior space. In fact, Jaguar claims that the increase in interior space makes it class-leading for rear seat space.

Engine options in the new XF include an entry-level 161bhp 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel, 296bhp 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo diesel and a flagship 378bhp 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol. Both six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions are available. The entry-level 2.0-litre diesel is the most efficient engine on offer, emitting just 104g/km and claiming to return over 70mpg. Jaguar says that with a CO2 figure as low as 104g/km, the XF has the “lowest CO2 emissions of any non-hybrid model in the segment.”

As with all big cat-badged models, the XF’s interior is lavish. Highlights include a 10.2-inch InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, popularised by the Jaguar XJ and Range Rover models. This system comes with dual view functionality, allowing the driver to view the sat-nav while the front passenger watches a DVD.
