All-new Peugeot 2008 and e-2008 revealed

New generation of the crossover will be offered with petrol, diesel and an all-electric powertrain

Peugeot has revealed the second-generation of its 2008 — with this version debuting an electric variant.

Both the 2008 and e-2008 are set for a launch in early 2020, with models taking on the firm’s latest corporate design.

Up front, walrus tusk-esque daytime running lights — as debuted on the 508 saloon — flank three-slot design headlights and a large grille. The rear of the car is now more reminiscent of the larger 3008 and 5008 SUVs, with claw-like taillights sitting up high along a full-width light bar.

Undoubtedly taking the powertrain headlines here is the e-2008. Using the same 100kW electric motor from the e-208 hatchback, it’s said to have a 193-mile range between charges. The 50kWh battery support 100kW rapid charging, allowing it to go from flat to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes.

The e-2008 takes on a number of styling cues to help it stand out from the regular car— including a Lion emblem up front that is seen as blue or green depending on the viewing angle, ‘e’ badging on the side panel and tailgate, plus a body-coloured front grille.

Under the bonnet of the regular 2008, customers will have the choice of a range of petrol and diesel engines.

Inside both cars, the latest version of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit technology makes an appearance, utilising hologram technology to create a cutting-edge head-up display. Other kit featuring includes semi-autonomous driving assists, ‘Full Park Assist’ which takes over entering and leaving a parking space, automatic emergency braking and automatic headlights.

Expect to hear more on pricing and specifications for both the 2008 and e-2008 later this year.
