All-new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer revealed

Vauxhall has revealed images of its new Astra Sports Tourer, which will make its public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show next week. The new estate-sized Astra has shaved 200kg in weight - 20 per cent from its shell alone - when compared with the outgoing model and, although it is slightly smaller on the outside (4,702mm, a width of 1,871mm), it offers more interior space for passengers.

On the inside there is an additional 26mm of headroom for the front passenger and 28mm more headroom for rear passengers. Boot space now stands at 1,630 litres.

Just like the new Astra hatchback, the Sports Tourer boasts a more aggressive front-end design and more prominent slashes down its flanks – all of which give a sportier stance. The Sports Tourer also features Vauxhall’s a new foot-activated boot opening and Vauxhall’s new OnStar connectivity system. OnStar offers a 4G mobile network as well as emergency response notifications and stolen vehicle recovery alert.

Powering the Sports Tourer is a range of both petrol and diesel engines, with power ranging from 99bhp to 197bhp. Engines in the line-up include the new 148bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol, the new 1.6-litre whisper diesel and a 197bhp version of the 1.6-litre ECOTEC petrol.

The new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer will be on sale next year.
