As part of new research by Hyundai, it was also found that 74 per cent of drivers ‘could and should’ do more to help the environment.

As part of new research released by Hyundai, it was found that nearly 20 per cent of British drivers worry about pollution on a daily basis.

Of the 2,000 British drivers asked, 74 per cent said that they could and should do more to live an environmentally-friendly lifestyle – with these results released as part of Clean Driving Month, where Hyundai is releasing the hydrogen fuel cell-powered Nexo.

People from London were the most worried about air pollution, with 55 per cent of those asked saying so – while 52 per cent of those from Edinburgh and 50 per cent of Manchester residents feeling the same way.

As part of the launch of Clean Driving Month, The Gadget Show presenter Georgie Barrat took the Devonshire family around some of the streets of London in the Nexo – which can clean 99.9 per cent of particulates in the air around it thanks to special air purifying filters.

Following the drive around the British capital, Barrat said: “It was really interesting listening to the Devonshire’s concerns when it comes to air pollution, and it’s understandable that parents are worried about what their children are breathing in.

“Hyundai’s Nexo is one of the solutions that could help address our air quality problem and it was great to see it in action. Refuelling with hydrogen was surprisingly quick and easy – just like filling up a petrol or diesel car – and it’s incredible that the only by-product is water.

“But what I found most impressive is how Nexo actually cleans the polluted air around it as it drives - it’s like a road hoover!”

Available to buy from next year, the Nexo can go for over 400 miles on a single tank of hydrogen and emits nothing but water. Prices for the Nexo start from £65,000.
