Aston Martin and Red Bull F1 team confirm car partnership

Aston Martin has officially confirmed a partnership with the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team. As a result of this deal, the two companies will work together to develop a ground-breaking new hypercar. The Aston Martin logo will also appear on Red Bull’s F1 cars this year.

New hypercar on the way

As was hinted at when reports of a collaboration first emerged last summer, Aston Martin is working on a new hypercar project with the help of Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer of Red Bull Racing. Newey has led the design of each of Red Bull’s F1 title-winning cars and the Aston Martin car he’ll help create will be called AM-RB 001.

Very little about the hypercar itself has been revealed so far, although a vague teaser image (seen in the main image above) give some sort of indication as to what the two companies have in mind. The car will be built at a dedicated studio within Aston Martin’s Gaydon HQ and just under 100 units will reportedly be made there.

Aston Martin CEO, Dr Andy Palmer, describes Formula 1 as “the ultimate global stage to build wider awareness of the Aston Martin brand.”

Aston Martin’s new F1 involvement

For some time now Aston Martin had been exploring the possibility of collaborating with a Formula 1 team. Talk of the British premium manufacturer joining up with the Red Bull team emerged last summer, around the time when Mercedes (which owns five per cent of Aston Martin) were discussing the prospect of supplying engines to Red Bull’s F1 cars.

When the Red Bull-Mercedes talks collapsed, however, Aston Martin turned their attention to other F1 teams. Towards the end of last year, it appeared that a collaboration between Red Bull and the Force India F1 team would be confirmed. However, Force India put the deal on hold, although they didn’t rule out the prospect of completing it this year.

It has now emerged though that Aston Martin had maintained a dialogue with the Red Bull team and now the partnership has been officially confirmed today, meaning Force India ultimately miss out.
