Aston Martin reveals DB11 Volante

The British sports car manufacturer takes the roof off its latest GT car and fitted it with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8

Aston Martin has unveiled the convertible version of its flagship DB11 model.

Called the DB11 Volante, it is built around the same aluminium structure that is at the heart of the coupe model and comes with a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 503bhp.

The V8 is paired with an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, electric power steering and a limited slip-differential with torque vectoring, offering excellent driving customisability while on the go via changeable drive settings.

From the outside the DB11 carries most of the detailing from the coupe model, but the swooping roof is replaced by a fabric folding version that stows away into the back end. The eight-layer roof helps to insulate the occupants from noise and inclement weather, and takes up 20 per cent less space than it did in the DB9 Volante.

It can be raised or lowered at speeds up to 31mph, with the process taking between 14 and 16 seconds.

As standard, Volante models come with a full leather interior, 20-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors with 360-degree cameras, an eight-inch screen with infotainment system and satellite navigation, phone connectivity, cruise control and automatic climate control.

Aston Martin president and CEO Dr Andy Palmer: “For many of our customers, indeed many generations of Aston Martin customer, the Volante has always offered something very special: a unique combination of elegant style, innate sporting ability and sensory engagement that lifts it above other open-top cars.

“The new DB11 Volante captures those qualities perfectly and promises the kind of pleasure and enjoyment that can only come from driving an open-top Aston Martin”.

Prices for the DB11 Volante start from £159,900.
