Audi and Porsche are joining forces to work on vehicle development

Audi and Porsche have a long history of joining up and producing some serious magic as a result: both the Audi Quattro S1 E2 and RS2 Avant were made the last times Ingolstadt and Stuttgart teamed up.

Now, according to reports, the two are going to work together once again to sprinkle their collective magic on a range of new cars, vehicle platforms and shared components.

Shared projects will be jointly headed up by both manufacturers, and engineering teams will consist of employees from both Audi and Porsche to prevent in-house competition for resources.

The move comes in the wake of the far-reaching ‘Dieselgate’ scandal, the result of which led Audi to lose key engineering and development personnel and parent group Volkswagen has been forced to steamline costs.

Both Audi and Porsche do currently share many components already though, with Audi developing the platforms for Porsche’s SUVs, while Porsche develops most of the Volkswagen Group’s V8 engines.

However, it’s unlikely that each manufacturer will have a hand in the others’ development of electric and hybrid cars, with the Porsche Mission E and Audi E-Tron lines reportedly staying separate.
