Audi reveals 2018 A7 Sportback

The large, premium coupe takes many of the technological features and aspects of the new A8

Audi has unveiled the latest version of the A7 Sportback at an event in Ingolstadt in Germany.

Coming with similar design aspects and a lot of the same technological features as the A8 premium saloon, this coupe-like model is the second version of the A7 that was originally launched in 2010.

The front grille has the same base design as with the A8 but has been widened and lowered for a sportier look, Matrix LED headlights are integrated into the front façia with a new angular design and the body’s lines are more sculpted for a more dynamic appearance.

At the rear, the A7 has a light bar that is integrated into the boot line and incorporates the brake lights and indicators, and a rear spoiler that raises at 74mph for improved downforce on the sleek body.

Inside, the A7 is more orientated towards the driver, with all major instruments turned slightly towards them for a more enclosed cockpit feel. It has a premium leather interior with other upholstery options available, and comes with the latest version of the Virtual Cockpit concept and dual-touchscreens in the central console that controls the car’s media system and overall systems.

As with the A8, the A7 will come with the Audi AI level 3 autonomous systems such as traffic assist and remote garage pilot, which will be available towards the later end of 2018.

Despite being shorter than the first generation, this newest version actually has more interior room as the wheelbase has been slightly lengthened to accommodate more cockpit space and the car maintains the height and width of the previous edition.

Engine-wise, the A7 is coming with a mild-hybrid V6 setup from launch that produces 335bhp and is paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It can get up to a top speed of 155mph and can hit 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds. The electrical system can be used to conserve fuel by shutting off the engine and the adaptive suspension when coasting. Four and six-cylinder engines will be available soon after launch.

The new A7 will be able to order from Q1 2018, with deliveries beginning later that year. Prices start from £61,000.
