Audi reveals e-tron GT concept

The all-electric design study will be the base for the production version set to go into production in 2020.

Audi has taken the covers off its latest all-electric concept – the e-tron GT.

Shown at the 2018 Los Angeles Motor Show, this design study is the preview for the road-going model, which is set to go into production in 2020. It will follow on from the e-tron SUV and the e-tron Sportback, with the latter set to go on sale in 2019.

As this electric vehicle is performance focussed, it will be built by Audi Sport – with the powertrain and technology co-developed with Porsche, which is building its own all-electric sports car called the Taycan.

The all-electric powertrain develops 582bhp, with all the power directed through the quattro all-wheel drive setup with torque vectoring. Audi claims the concept can go from 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds and can go on to a limited top speed of 149mph – said to help maximise the vehicle’s 248-mile range.

The four-door model comes with a sloping roofline that blends into the back end, while the fascia features a hexagonal grille with e-tron designation on the lower part. It also comes with complex 22-inch alloy wheels to fit in with the concept ethos.

Much like other recent Audi models, the brake lights are incorporated into one single light bar that spans the back end – which also uses ‘e-tron’ lettering.

The interior includes a large infotainment touchscreen that sits above a slimline touch-sensitive unit to control the climate control. Behind the hexagonal steering wheel is a fully-digital instrument display – while the rest of the interior is sleek and minimalist.

Audi says that customers will be getting their hands on the production version from 2021 – with the e-tron GT being one of the 12 electric vehicles the German brand will offer by 2025.
