Audi has taken the covers off the first RS5 version of the five-door Sportback at the New York International Auto Show.
Fitted with a 2.9-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 443bhp and 600Nm of torque, that power is driven through all four wheels via the quattro all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed tiptronic transmission.
With that setup, you can get from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds – the same as the three-door Coupe version – and go on to a top speed of 174mph.
Compared to the standard A5 Sportback, the RS version comes with a single honeycomb grille, gloss black detailing, a matte front spoiler with quattro lettering, an RS exhaust system with oval tailpipes, lip spoiler and 19-inch alloy wheels. Audi also offers RS sports suspension with dynamic ride control as an optional extra.
Inside you will find Nappa leather upholstered sports seats, a flat-bottomed leather sports steering wheel, RS-specific displays with the virtual cockpit display and 40/20/40 split rear seats.
Save money on a new Audi todayMichael-Julius Renz, managing director of Audi Sport, said: “The Audi RS 5 Sportback is more than just an international trade fair novelty – it offers something new to our customers.
“Our innovative interpretation of a five-door high-performance coupé has neither predecessor models, nor a direct competitor. The new Audi RS 5 Sportback will carry the RS genes out onto the road.”
UK prices and specification are to be announced later this year.
