Bentley implements fingerprint scanner on Bentayga storage

With the help personal commissioning division Mulliner, Bentley will be offering this system in its SUV models.

Bentley Bentayga drivers will now be able to store items in their vehicles more securely, thanks to the introduction of a new fingerprint scanning system.

Developed by the firm’s personal commissioning division Mulliner, the biometric scanner allows access to a further storage compartment in the central console where customers can store valuables and also connect to the Apple CarPlay via a USB connection.

With the aluminium scanner placed on top of the small locker, customers need only set their fingerprint to be recognised and from then on, they can discreetly store anything they need to in the small compartment.

Inside the locker are two USB ports and an Auxiliary socket for media devices, and when closed, it fits in discreetly in the central segment of the cockpit.

Uday Senapati, Mulliner’s head of technical operations, said: “The Mulliner Biometric Secure Stowage unit is hidden from view. We are incorporating the familiar fingerprint sensor technology from smartphones that can store multiple fingerprints, allowing the user to control who accesses their valuables.”

Mulliner has been working with Bentley since the 1920s on special commissions and coachbuilding exercises, but since 1959 it was brought in-house to help the Crewe-based car manufacturer on a full-time basis.

The brand now creates special edition Bentley models and equipment, such as the new fingerprint scanner.
