BMW at the 2019 Goodwood: What can we expect to see?

BMW always puts on a spectacle at the Festival of Speed, and this year will be no different.

The annual Goodwood Festival of Speed is a celebration of all things on four (and two) wheels, with a vast array of the latest road cars on display along with past and present racing icons.

One manufacturer that is particularly keen on showing this is BMW. Here’s what you can expect to see from BMW at the 2019 Festival of Speed, which is held between Thursday 4 and Sunday 7 July.

UK premieres for BMW’s latest M models

BMW has been rolling out numerous brand-new road cars in recent months, and the Festival of Speed will give spectators the first chance to get close up with the firm’s latest models.

The new 8 Series-based M8 will be making its UK premiere at the event, with this car set to offer quite the spectacle as BMW M’s most powerful model ever produced. Its 616bhp 4.4-litre V8 offers a thrilling 0-60mph time of just three seconds, and will be awe-inspiring to watch attack the Goodwood hillclimb in the ‘Supercar’ category.

The recently-unveiled X4 M Competition will also be making its UK debut, with this performance SUV also heading up the hill, too.

The ‘BMW Boulevard’

BMW is known for its vast presence at the Festival of Speed, and things are no different this year, with the ‘BMW Boulevard’ once again positioned in the Stable Yard of the grand Goodwood House.

This section is dedicated to BMW’s luxurious models, with cars such as the X7 M50i, the new M8 Competition Convertible and the freshly-unveiled M850i Gran Coupe on show.

The main BMW stand

Alongside the Boulevard, BMW will also have its own stand, which it’s calling the ‘BMW M Town’. This will be home to the majority of BMW’s latest M models, with the stars of the stand being brand new cars, such as the M135i, M340i and the X3 M Competition. Past M models will also be on display.

Past icons

While the Festival of Speed welcomes new models, the key part of the event is the past racing models. BMW Group Classic is bringing along a number of its finest racing cars. Just a handful of these include the V12 LMR car, which won the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1999, along with an M3 E30 and an earlier racing model – the 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupe from 1940.
