BMW confirms the M8 is coming

The BMW M8 super saloon is set to launch in 2018, following the recent reveal of a prototype version.

BMW has officially acknowledged the existence of the M8 super saloon which will sit at the top of the upcoming new 8 Series range expected to launch during 2018.

Images of an M8 prototype in a disguised livery have been released by BMW and the German manufacturer unveiled the car in a driving presentation during last weekend’s Nürburgring 24-hour race.

Despite the disguised look, several design features reminiscent of other BMW M models can be spotted on the M8. This includes the large air intakes, chunky sports brakes and sports exhaust with four tailpipes.

Engine and performance details for the M8 are currently unconfirmed but online reports indicate that the BMW will use the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 and four-wheel drive powertrain as the M5 with over 600bhp.

BMW has also confirmed that a race-spec version of their new car, named the M8 GTE, is being developed by BMW Motorsport and it will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
