This increase comes despite a slight downturn in European interest for BMW and Mini, as the continent saw a 2.1 per cent decrease in sales for July at 76,971. UK sales for the brands drop by 13 per cent compared to the same month in 2017.

Electrified BMW Group vehicles have now been sold 71,310 times, which is 40.6 per cent up compared to the first seven months of 2017 – with July 2018 seeing 10,649 electrified sales.

Pieter Nota, BMW Group board member for sales and brand BMW, said: “Our focus on sustainable, profitable sales growth is proving successful, as we continue to attract more customers than ever, despite the various headwinds currently affecting the industry.

“Customer demand for our X vehicles continues to be very high and now we’ve increased production capacity by localising the BMW X3 in China and South Africa, we can already see the positive effect that additional availability has on sales. The continuing, growing demand for our electrified vehicles is also very pleasing, with deliveries of BMW i, BMW iPerformance and MINI Electric vehicles up by over 40% in the year to date.”
