BMW Group has announced that it delivered more than 140,000 electrified vehicles last year across its two major brands.

Through BMW and Mini, 142,617 electrified vehicles were sold around the world in 2018 – up 38.4 per cent on 2017.

The US proved to be the most popular market for plug-in BMW Group models, with more than 25,000 units sold – making up seven per cent of the brand’s sales in the country. The BMW 530e was the most popular plug-in option in that market.

BMW Group also had the largest market share for electrified vehicles in Europe – controlling more than 16 per cent of the European electric sales with more than 75,000 units delivered.

BMW AG chairman Harald Krüger said:

“Since launching the BMW i3 in 2013, the BMW Group has rapidly grown its sales of electrified vehicles. With over 140,000 delivered in 2018, we have once again achieved our ambitious target."

“This great sales result and our impressive market share proves our vehicles are what the customer wants. In countries which offer appropriate infrastructure and regulatory support, we see how quickly electromobility can become the norm.

“I’m confident that by the end of this year, there will be a total of half a million electrified BMW Group vehicles on the roads, with much more to come as we continue to extend our model line-up over the next few years.”
