BMW has announced a new, super-limited-edition version of its M4 Convertible. Named 30 Jahre (or 30 Years) it’s been built to celebrate three decades of convertible M cars. The legacy began in 1988 with the first BMW M3 Convertible, and the new M4 Convertible 30 Jahre harks back to that with a few details.

Customers will be able to choose from two nostalgic paint colours. The first, Macao Blue metallic, recalls the shade available on the original M3 Convertible, while Mandarin II uni is reminiscent of the Dakar Yellow hue available on the second-generation.

Standard exterior styling features include high gloss trim around the grille, side gills in unique ‘M’ form and 20-inch alloy wheels in an exclusive Orbit Grey matte. Inside, the leather trim is matched to the exterior colour and comprises contrasting stitching on the headrests and floor mats, spelling out ’30 Jahre Edition’.

Elsewhere, the M4 Convertible 30 Jahre is thoroughly modern, being based on the Competition Pack model. That means a 3.0-litre straight-six engine, which is twin-turbocharged and tuned to produce 444bhp – the same figure as the latest Audi RS5. Performance is as impressive as you’d expect – with 0-60mph dispatched in just 4.3 seconds on the way to a limited top speed of 155mph.

The limited-run 30 Jahre Edition of the M4 Convertible will consist of just 300 models worldwide – of which the UK will get just 30. Each car will get a numbered plaque inside, telling the buyer which car they’ve bought.

Pricing for the 30 Jahre Edition starts at £76,675 - £13,495 more than the standard M4 Convertible, but still almost £13,000 less than the hardcore M4 CS.
