BMW M8 close to production start

The top-end version of the BMW flagship is currently going through testing before its sales debut next year.

BMW has revealed images of its new M8 in testing before its market debut in 2019.

Based on the 8 Series that was revealed earlier this year, this new model has been modified by the brand’s motorsport division and comes with a performance setup.

The M8 is currently being tested at the Estoril grand prix circuit in Portugal and BMW has said that it is in the final stages of development before production can begin.

As with any other M model, the M8 comes with equipment unique to the model, such as new suspension elements, chassis components and the M xDrive system first seen on the latest M5 – which comes with rear-wheel bias and a two-wheel drive mode.

The engine has also altered by the M Division, with the V8 now employing M TwinPower Turbo technology, meaning it now produces upwards of 600bhp – 80bhp more than in the M850i.

This will be the first M version of the 8 Series range to be released, with the M8 Convertible and M8 Gran Coupe also in development – both of which will be revealed at some point in 2018.
