BMW has unveiled a special anniversary edition of its world-renowned performance saloon, the M5.
Called the Edition 35 Years, the new celebration model is based on the current M5 Competition and only 350 units of the variant will be built.
It features the same 616bhp twin-turbo V8 from the Competition, which is capable of getting the M5 from 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 190mph.
The Edition 35 Years also feature the same drivetrain as the Competition – the M-modified, xDrive all-wheel drive setup that can be switched to the rear-wheel drive M mode for the ultimate M5 driving experience.
Despite the mechanical similarities, the Edition 35 Years differs in one key area – how it looks. The most notable aspect of this special edition M5 is its colour – BMW call it Frozen Dark Grey II metallic.
There’s also a newly designed set of exclusive 20-inch M light alloy wheels, alongside the optional carbon ceramic brakes that come with gold callipers.
Inside, you get M Sport seats in black Merino leather with beige stitching as well as a gold trim unique to the model.
Door sill finishers bear the inscription ‘M5 Edition 35 Jahre’ – jahre being German for years – and the cup holder cover adds a unique inscription for each unit built.
See Available M5 dealsThe original M5 went into production with a 286bhp in-line six-cylinder, creating ‘the first high-performance saloon’.
Now, in 2019, there have been six generations of the M5 and this Edition 35 Years celebrates that heritage.
The Edition 35 Years will be available from July, with prices expecting to easily exceed the cost of the M5 Competition, which starts from £96,205.
