Boeing and Porsche are teaming up on a flying car…

Aviation expert and sports car manufacturer are looking to co-develop a flying car.

Sports car giants Porsche and aeroplane experts Boeing are teaming up to develop a flying car.

Before you get too excited though, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to head down to your local Porsche dealer to buy a Macan with wings on anytime soon. Rather, the two firms will be studying the possibilities of urban-focused air vehicles — and even produce a proof-of-concept prototype.

It’s likely this concept will be seen as a taxi for the future instead of a privately purchasable vehicle, though it’s interesting to see at least. A 2018 study by Porsche Consulting forecasted the ‘air mobility’ market will pick up demand from 2025, so the German car manufacturer clearly sees sales potential down the line.

Steve Nordlund, vice president and general manager of Boeing NeXt (the firm’s next-generation tech arm), said: "This collaboration builds on our efforts to develop a safe and efficient new mobility ecosystem, and provides an opportunity to investigate the development of a premium urban air mobility vehicle with a leading automotive brand. Porsche and Boeing together bring precision engineering, style and innovation to accelerate urban air mobility worldwide."

Little is known just yet about the flying vehicle, aside from it being capable of vertical take-off and landing. Expect to hear more over the next couple of years on the project.
