Caterham reveals road-spec Seven 620S

Luxuries like heated seats aren’t what you’d generally expect from Caterham, but that’s all about to change with the introduction of its new Seven 620S.

A more road-friendly version of the Seven 620R, the fastest car that Caterham has ever manufactured, the 620S keeps the same 310bhp engine but adds a few extra everyday comforts.

Softer suspension but same engine

Ditching the track-oriented sequential gearbox of the R model, the 620S also gets softer suspension and a full windscreen plus road tyres, heated leather seats and a heater for the cabin.

However, you do get to keep the same uprated brakes and limited-slip differential as its racier stablemate, and the 620S can still hit 62mph from a standstill in a blistering 3.4 seconds.

This may be a car that makes some concession to comfort, but courtesy of the 2.0-litre Ford engine and Caterham’s engineering know-how, it’s still faster than an Audi R8 or Ferrari 458 Spider.

Faster than an Audi R8

The 620S also uses a wider chassis to allow more space for things like passengers, luggage and a bigger fuel tank, while it’s also around £5,000 less than the 620R version at £44,995.

As a result, this is the most credible Caterham so far for daily-driver duties, but given its otherworldly performance it might be slightly softer, but it’s nowhere near gone soft.
