Cowabunga! Vauxhall unveils new Vivaro Surf Concept

Vauxhall has unveiled a new concept version of its British-built Vivaro van at the Frankfurt Motor Show, named the Vivaro Surf Concept.

Based on the Crew Cab version, the Surf Concept transforms the Vivaro into a beach-ready leisure vehicle which can carry up to six people and competes with the likes of the Volkswagen Caravelle.

Designed specifically for outdoor sporting activities, the Vivaro Surf Concept also features plenty of storage space, with a four square metre cargo area which can hold snowboards, skis or bikes.

Able to carry up to a tonne in weight, the floor of the cargo area is fitted with a newly-developed rail system, with an under-floor storage box that stretches the width of the second row of seats.

Other interior touches include a cabin fitted by Dutch conversion specialists Snoeks Automotive, while it’s topped off with copper-brown paintwork and a special roof-mounted surfboard bracket.

The Vivaro Surf Concept also features revised air suspension to improve comfort, plus Vauxhall’s IntelliLink infotainment system with Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity.

Power comes courtesy of a 138bhp 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine, which can take the concept to a top speed of 112mph, while returning 46.3mpg with 160g/km of CO2.

On show at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt this week, Vauxhall has strongly hinted that the Surf Concept could go into production in the near future as a Limited Edition model.
