Eighth-generation Porsche 911 revealed

This is the latest version of the legendary sports car and it comes with improved engines and technology as well as a refreshed design.

Porsche has taken the covers off its new 911, now in its eighth generation.

Although it may look largely the same as before, the 2019 911 – internally known as the 992 – features a refreshed design that includes a single rear brake light, wider wheel housings and sharper edges.

It also includes four-point daytime running lights, matrix LED headlights, dual oval exhausts and retractable door handles that improve aerodynamic performance by sitting flush with the rest of the body. A variable rear spoiler is also fitted.

As you would expect from a 911, it is fitted with a rear-mounted flat-six-cylinder turbocharged engine that continues the tradition of the sports car.

On making its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show, the 911 will be presented in its Carrera S and 4S guises, which have 444bhp at their disposal – 30bhp more than the previous generation – and will be paired to an eight-speed PDK transmission. A seven-speed manual option will be available later.

With the engine-transmission pairing from launch, the 911 Carrera will get from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds – 0.4 seconds faster than before – and that can be reduced further by the addition of the optional Sport Chrono Package, which drops the time to just 3.3 seconds. It’s top speed is 191mph.

In the new cabin customers will find two digital instrument dials either side of a traditional rev-counter, while the central display is a 10.9-inch unit. It is constantly connected to the internet to provide up-to-date traffic information and access the Porsche Connect Plus service.

New assistance systems have been fitted, including Porsche’s all-new ‘Wet’ mode that sets the car up for damp tarmac. Emergency braking and warning systems are also fitted as standard, while customers can also choose the Night Vision Assist and adaptive cruise control as optional extras.

Available to order now, the 911 Carrera S starts from £93,110. Deliveries will begin in spring 2019.
